EugeneDoesArt's News

Hey guys, just a quick update.

I started the month at a 12 page count for Sue n' Clark: Chapter 1. I'm now at a 22-23 page count, which is a lot smoother than last month's progress. On a side note, I'm starting to realize that calling it a "Chapter" may not have been the best title, due to its length. I'm estimating this first instalment will be between 30-60 pages long, which could fill an entire book. I might change the title a bit going forward.

So yeah, more of the same.

Hey Guys.

Since I'm not uploading as frequently as I used to, I figured I would give an update on how things have been going this past month.

Sue n' Clark: Chapter 1 is in the works

I am currently working on Chapter 1 of Sue n' Clark and have 12 of the sketch pages done. Its taken me a lot longer to produce than I originally thought, but I'm getting my footing as I go along. I have no official release date set for when Chapter 1 will drop, but I will continue to update you all on my progress. I'm hoping to get 2-3 pages of the draft done every day, making September the month of the draft's completion, but time will tell if that works out. Here are a few sneak peaks I took on my phone.

I realize its very rough around the edges, but that's why I'm not including it in the art portal. A lot of the rougher edges will be fixed in digital (and with the help of QueenBoo as an editor). Right now, my focus is on getting the sketches done so that they can be patched up at a later time.

The Loss Collab

Last month, I participated in the Loss Collab and submitted my own entry to the art portal. I definitely want to do more drawings in this darker style (when I finally have time to do so). While I like this piece, I want to get better at doing these types of drawings to give the full scale of bleak I'm looking to capture.

I'm so done with Twitter tbh

Maybe I'm just being a naysayer, but I can't fucking stand being on Twitter anymore. I've reached my breaking point after all the horrible ass updates Elon has made. Twitter was already bad enough with all the concern trolls and holier-than-thou stan accounts, but Elon's takeover and reworks have made the site irrelevant for my needs. What's the point of posting anything when it barley reaches any of my NG peers? No Elon, I'm not paying you to allow my posts to reach 2 more of my dead followers.

So yeah, for a large portion of the month, I haven't been on Twitter and its done me wonders. I guess I can thank Elon for ruining Twitter so bad, its made me "go touch grass". And to be honest, even if Twitter somehow got better, I still wouldn't return to it. The only people that seem to give that money pit any traction are terminally online losers who look for the smallest things to cancel people over. Twitter is literally just Kiwi Farms for mentally stunted zoomers and morbidly obese cat ladies.

Infrequent Art Uploads

I've never been good with keeping a frequent upload schedule, and I probably never will be. But I'm cool with that. I still try to upload to the art portal at least once a month (when I'm not on hiatus). Hopefully I'll be able to do just that in September.

Conclusion

Thanks again for reading my update. I should do more of these.

Sup Guys!

Any of you remember the Loss Meme? Well Sage created a collab to pay tribute to the long lived meme format, and he tasked us with creating our own versions of Loss. We got a staggering +60 entries for this amazing collab. Go ahead and check it out below.

You can also check out my entry with the link below. Here's a preview.

Hey Guys!

I'm not the best at this whole "recap" thing, but I just wanna say, the NG Meetup at TooManyGames was a great experience. I'm gonna dedicate this post to giving shout-outs to all the people that made my weekend. I may have missed a few of you. For that I'm truly sorry. Hit me up in this thread if I somehow missed you.

Shout-out List!

Thank you @CorTat-G for taking the initiative to host the meetup. It was great getting to finally shake your hand in-person. You're a real cool dude, and you made my weekend one to remember. I know you had help with the process, but your efforts to help get the ball rolling are greatly appreciated.

Thank you @TomFulp for taking the time to come see us all at the meet up. Also, thank you for all the work you and the crew do for NG. You've helped give me a platform to share my work with others. You've given us all the ability to create and share with people from all around the world. And most of all, you've helped foster one of the best communities on the web. Also also, thank you for shaking my hand and getting a selfie with me.

Thank you @SageIsReal , @Emizip , @MarshyBruh for hanging with me at the TooManyGames convention. I know there was more of you there (please let them know I thanked them too). It was great getting to run into Emi at the King of Prussia Mall with all her friends. Had to help her get out of the Macy's in one piece, but it was worth it. Was also great getting to run into both Sage and Marshy at the meetup. Sorry my profile pic didn't meet your expectations. Maybe I should rebrand (or get even fatter irl). Sorry you lost your tournament Marshy, but atleast you and Sage got to witness two fat dudes beat each other up in that WWE knock off show we watched. It was also great getting to see Sage do amazing at the Smash Tournament. Four minutes of playtime? That's a new record!

Thank you @SrPelo for taking that one selfie with me. I hope my opener of calling you "Mister Mokey Man" wasn't too cringe. I saw you were getting swamped with fans and didn't want to bother you for too long.

Thank you @Anislug for shaking my hand at the con. You were a lot taller than I thought you'd be. I wanna also thank you for being a good dude in this community. You've helped me and a lot of NG folk by being a pillar of support. You're kind, down to earth nature is of great value to us all.

Thank you @Droid for talking with me near the signing booth. You probably don't remember me much, but I was the dude who graduated college the same year as you, and couldn't get a job due to Covid. Always great to share life experience with another full time dev. Normies shall never know of our struggles.

Thank you @IvanAlmighty for humoring my ADHD talk. It was pretty random, but we had a great discussion about how we deal with our occasional mind fog. You're all around a cool dude and a great animator.

Thank you @ninjamuffin99 for shaking my hand and allowing yourself to witness my Gameboy Photo-op (signed by Linkara himself).

Thank you @PhantomArcade for randomly following me on NG. Your horny review post was greatly appreciated (especially on my worst art piece).

Thank you @Slimygoo for having a chat with me and putting up with my bullshit. I know it pays as well as a reddit mod, but I appreciate it all the same.

I hope to see you all next year!

Hey everybody!

I finally got my new place and I'm fully moved in. Its been quite the journey, but I'm back... sorta. I should probably elaborate.

Where I've been:

After my last art trade, I made preparations to move out. I dropped everything I was doing online and logged off all my socials for nearly two months. Best choice I could make tbh. The move was stressful, but being offline gave me my energy back. It also gave me perspective. I've come to realize that the whole "content farm" mindset just isn't for me. I'm not some savant that can upload weekly art. And I don't think posting every sketch I make is all that valuable to those that follow me. I gotta take my time with the things I create. Since my absence, I've learned that "slow and steady" is what will win the race (for me).

My current plans:

I've been doing my best to "get back on the wagon". I haven't been drawing much these past months, so getting back into the swing of things is my first priority. Been sketching whatever comes to mind while redrawing OCs. In the mean time, I have written a total of three chapters for Sue n' Clark (my webcomic). I'm hoping to have the three chapters fully complete before the end of this year (fingers crossed). I'll try to be more active in the community, but I won't be uploading as much as I used to. This is so I can focus my attention on projects like my webcomic. I want to finally get this damn comic done. On a side note, I would also like to open a YouTube Channel, but that's pretty far off from any of my main priorities.

Thanks again everyone! Hope to see you all at TooManyGames!

Hey everyone. I'll probably be offline for a while, give or take a few months. I'll be relocating to a new apartment. Got a lot of boxes to move and plans to make. Plus I need a break from the internet for a while. I've been rushing a lot of work here recently, and need to step away for some time. The hiatus should help give me my energy back.

I'll still be working on stuff in the background, but I'm not gonna be in the thick of things online. No art trades, no Pico Day submission, just irl grinding.

See you all in the coming months,

-Eugene

For the next Sue n' Clark entry, I'm thinking of creating something a bit more comprehensive. A short story would be a good idea. My first entry was competent, but lacked any major story, and was generally dull. At the time I was thinking of making a weekly webcomic run like you see on Webtoon. Yeah, that fell through real quick! So for now, I have decided that its best to release quality work when I can, rather than upload a ton of stuff every week. I don't know when exactly I'll release another Sue n' Clark entry, but hopefully its within the next three months.

See you then,

-Eugene

I really do wish I was able to upload art more often. But life has a way of pulling me back out of my grind. Its not easy trying to balance my webcomic, art trades, and art studies while having a full time job. And that's not even accounting for my preparations of moving out in the coming months. I don't always treat myself with the respect I need when I'm juggling so much stuff. Its nearly lead me to getting burned out. I gotta slow down, but right now all I wanna do is keep going harder and harder. Its like a compulsion I get whenever I get myself back in the game.

I sadly don't have many solutions for these problems. But regardless, I'm still gonna do what I can to get more art out. Release dates will still be all over the place. I just hope this post helped explain why I keep dipping in and out of NG.

On a side note, I did an art trade with itsreddqueen recently. You can check it out here

Thanks again everyone,

-Eugene

Thank you everyone for the feedback on my first webcomic entry. If you didn't get a chance to read it, you can check it out here. I'm glad to know that most of you guys got what I was going for. But of course, there's always room for improvement. The grind never ends baby! I made sure to take notes on both what worked, and what needs improving. The most consistent critique is the lack of backgrounds. I'm no expert on good backgrounds, but I'll do what I can to provide a cohesive setting next time. It was nice to know that people liked my paneling and expressions. I felt that those two things where the most crucial elements to a good webcomic. Mission accomplished on that front! I gotta start experimenting with speech bubbles and fonts in CSP. Can't be out here drawing all the fonts from hand.

In other news,

I wish I was able to upload more consistently. But real life doesn't always provide me that luxury. Its been rough trying to keep up when you have a full time job. Right now I'm not cut out for this whole "pleasing the algorithm" nonsense. Regardless, I'm gonna try my best to upload when I can.

I got an art trade coming up in late February so I'm still on the grind regardless.
